Andrew Sentance - Economics, Guitar, Vocals

Dr Andrew Sentance CBE is a business economist who started his career in the mid-1980s with the CBI and then worked at London Business School and British Airways before serving on the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee from 2006 to 2011. He studied economics at Cambridge and the London School of Economics, where he studied for his PhD. He is currently working as Senior Economic Adviser to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and recently left the band due to a philosophical clash with his personal career and business ambitions.

He was awarded a CBE for services to the economy in the 2012 New Year Honours list. He recently released his first self-published book entitled 'Rediscovering Growth'. In Andrew's youth, he learned to play the piano and the organ and taught himself the guitar in the 1970s. He played regularly at Clare College Folk Club in Cambridge and was the Club Secretary in 1979. The Club was one of the focal points of the Cambridge music scene. Andrew also had a brief spell in a punk band called "The Gits".

In the early 1980's, Andrew played bass with fellow Cambridge musicians in the band Rock Creek, which broke the boundaries of popular culture by establishing a residency at Notting Hill Gate Wimpy Bar on Friday evenings in late 1980 and early 1981. Andrew and his wife Anne also joined with Phil Scott (now bass player with The Eskys in Bristol) to form the group Daystar in the early 1980s, with acoustic guitars and Crosby-Stills-Nash style three-part harmony vocals. Variants of Daystar played on and off through the 1990s and into the 2000s.

Andrew was a member of the South Essex Christian rock band Revelation, where he played alongside fellow Rock In The City member Pete Stephens, although he also left the band recently for similar reasons to pursue other avenues.
